Dr. Benjamin Sun

This edition of the popular Breakfast at Blake speaker series featured Dr. Benjamin Sun. Dr. Sun is a cardiothoracic surgery specialist and the surgical director of heart failure at Allina Health in Minneapolis. He was the recent past chair of cardiothoracic surgery at the Minneapolis Heart Institute and the Ohio State University Medical Center. He has been practicing for 33 years.

During his talk, Cyborgs, Pigs and a Heart Beating in a Box: Is this the Future of Heart Failure Surgery?, he explained how surgery for the failing heart has quietly evolved in directions once thought to be science fiction. A surprising number of people in our community have been touched by the innovations he discussed including Heart in a Box therapy, a promising innovation that is expected to provide hope for the more than 3,400 patients awaiting heart transplants in the U.S.
