The reunion edition of our popular Breakfast at Blake speaker series featured our Young Alumnus of the Year Rolf Haas '04. Haas is a classically trained violinist who plays in the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, where he made his solo debut at age 14. He has performed as second violin leader of Kammerakademie Potsdam (Germany) as well as concertmaster of the Mozaic Festival Orchestra. He performs at the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Haas has been featured on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today.”

Haas is also a respected hip-hop artist (emcee/producer). With his former group Nocturnal Unit he released three full-length albums and an E.P. He is working with the former drummer of Nocturnal Unit on music for a new project titled "Midnight Armada," which combines compositional techniques of conversational chamber music with the sonic palette of hip-hop and hardcore punk.

In his Breakfast at Blake presentation, Haas shared his thoughts on the importance of perseverance and resilience as it relates to his life and musical pursuits as an accomplished performer.
