Students Selected For Service Leadership Development Program

In his off-school hours, James Ly '20 can be found helping younger students in his role as a Bear to Bear tutor and as a volunteer for Arc's Value Village. Genevieve Gellerman '24 gives her time to the Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners. She also keeps a backpack filled with basic necessities in her mom's car to share with those experiencing homelessness.

Ly's and Gellerman's service efforts recently impressed the selection committee for the Stillman Global Scholars Program, which designated the two to represent youth from across Minnesota who are committed to making a difference locally and globally.

As Stillman Global Scholars, Ly and Gellerman will participate in a Leadership Academy Day to prepare for a 10-day summer trip to Kenya, where they will volunteer with locals on a sustainable development project. In addition, they will be matched with a program mentor, based on the mentee's skills, interests and goals. Leading up to the trip, Ly and Gellerman will connect monthly with their mentors for guidance and feedback as they develop their personal development and leadership goals.

Esha Aggarwal '20 was also selected to the program but is unable to participate because of a conflict with the travel dates to Kenya. All three students were eligible to apply because Blake is one of 20 Minnesota schools designated as a Stillman Leadership School through WE.
