Student Writers Recognized in Regional Awards Program

The Minnesota Writing Region Scholastic Writing Awards have been announced, and 19 Blake Middle and Upper School students garnered awards. The highest scoring entries in the competition were awarded one of the following distinctions:

• Gold Key: Writing demonstrating the highest levels of achievement in originality, personal vision/voice and technical skill. Gold Key writing is forwarded to New York City for national adjudication. Students are recognized with Gold Key lapel pins and certificates.

• Silver Key: Writing demonstrating achievement worthy of recognition at the regional level. Students are recognized with Silver Key lapel pins and certificates.

• Honorable Mention: Art or writing demonstrating creative potential.

From the Gold Key recipients, five were selected as American Voices Award Nominees. These works will be reviewed in a panel at the national level for the American Voices Award. One American Voices Medal — a national level award— is selected from each region. Yeukai Zimbwa '20 was named one of this year's nominees.

The 2019 Minnesota Writing Region Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Minnesota Writing Project, will be held on April 13.

Niharika Bhavsar '20 — Honorable Mention in critical essay

Tess Blake '24 — Honorable Mention in flash fiction

Rachel Eggert '19 — Honorable Mention in poetry

Lily Erlandson '23 — Silver Key in poetry

Alexander Ha '23 — Honorable Mention in flash fiction
