The Blake School Delayed Start Protocol

In the event of severe weather, Blake has formalized a schedule to accommodate a late start of the school day. There will be a modified schedule starting two hours late for each division, and bus routes will run 90 minutes later than normal.

Locations on each campus will be designated for students to congregate until classes start with adult supervision (LSHC, dining room; LSBC, gym/extended day room; MS, library; US, library).

Texts, emails and voicemails will be sent to notify the community of a late start by 6 a.m. Blake will also post the announcement via the school's website, on social media channels and through local news media.

If a late start is called, before-school activities will be canceled. After-school activities will occur as scheduled unless the administration decides that these activities should not take place for students' safety. That decision will be made by noon and communicated to all involved.

Please keep in mind that while the school will determine when it's safe to hold classes, parents and guardians should always make an individual decision regarding safety when determining if and when their children should come to school.

Any work that is missed due to a student's absence or late arrival stemming from safety concerns will be allowed to be made up, and no academic or co-curricular penalty shall be enforced.

If you have questions about these procedures, please contact your division director.
