If you think those Elves on the Shelves are busy this time of year, they have nothing on the Breakthrough Minneapolis at Blake (BMB) team who are hard at work searching for the best and brightest future leaders in our area. Applications are now open for BMB’s summer 2025. You can help!

Future BMB Scholars
We are looking for current sixth and seventh grade students who live in Minneapolis, are motivated learners and would benefit from academic enrichment and future college planning support. Priority is given to students who are BIPOC, free and reduced lunch eligible, the first generation in their family to go to college and/or from single-parent homes. Applications available here in English, Hmong, Somali, Spanish and Vietnamese. If you have contacts at area middle schools and are willing to help spread the word, contact BMB Student Services Director Quashingm Smith-Pugh at qsmithpugh@blakeschool.org to ask for fliers or more information.

Future Teaching Fellows and Interns
BMB summer teaching faculty are some of the most amazing college and high school students you would ever want to meet. They are passionate, determined and committed to making a difference. Our teaching fellowship provides an intensive nine-week summer internship where fellows receive over 100 hours of professional development and leadership training and gain over 60 hours of lead classroom teaching experience. Whether they are already an aspiring teacher or just want to work with kids, this job training program will leave them with critical skills they can use on many professional paths. Aspiring teaching fellows can apply here and select Breakthrough Minneapolis at Blake as their first choice. We are asking any community members who work or have contacts at area colleges and universities to help us get the word out about this opportunity. Can you connect us to a professor, department or student group that might let us present on the program? Can you share this flier with colleagues? Any and all doors opened can help. If you’re able to provide support, contact BMB Academic Services Director Jame See Yang at jyang@blakeschool.org.

We are so excited to meet our newest BMB leaders—thank you for your help in introducing us to them.
