Plank Summer Institute for Educators 2025: Arts for Social Change and Economic Development in Historic Rondo and Beyond
June 24-26
8:30am-3:30pm
Northrop campus
511 Kenwood Parkway, Minneapolis
The Rondo neighborhood of St. Paul was a vibrant African-American community, a hub of arts and culture, before being disrupted by racially motivated urban development and the construction of Interstate 94 in the 1960s. In the decades since, individuals and organizations have worked to remember and renew a diverse and thriving community using performing and other arts. Join us in exploring the role the arts play in creating social change and economic development in Rondo and beyond with Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute, ReConnect Rondo, Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Penumbra Theatre, Walker West Music Academy, WestBone Productions, An Opera Theatre and other community organizations. These will be experiential visits. And, as usual, we’ll enjoy good food, conversation, and connection along the way.
Established over 40 years ago through a generous endowment gift from Raymond Plank ΚΌ40, the Plank Summer Institute brings together educators and local business and industry leaders to learn from one another. All Pre-K to post-secondary educators in public, private or nonprofit settings are welcome to apply. There is no application or registration fee, and meals, materials and bus transportation are provided at no cost to participants. We invite you to apply for one, two or all three days. Those who apply by April 28 will hear by May 1 regarding acceptance. Applications for any remaining spaces will be reviewed on a rolling basis until spaces are filled.
Treat yourself to the Plank Summer Institute for Educators and invite other educators in your network to do the same!
