Interdisciplinary artist Louise Fisher will be on campus Oct. 2 through Nov. 3 as part of the 2023-24 McGuire Visiting Artist program. In collaboration with Middle School industrial arts instructor Jon Van Bergen she will lead a sixth grade woodworking project, and she’ll work with Upper School visual arts instructor Brian Sago and his printmaking students on a screen printing project.
Her residency will culminate in a show in the Martha Bennett Gallery at the Upper School during November and December. This exhibit will showcase a mixture of Fisher’s work and the student work produced during her residency. The Blake community is invited to an opening reception on Friday, Nov. 3, 5:30-7:30pm, during which visitors can meet the artist, students and faculty, see the artwork and participate in a screen printing demonstration.
In January, Kofi Bazzell-Smith, who was also selected as a 2023-24 McGuire Visiting Artist, will begin a residency at Blake. More information will be available closer to his visit. The biennial McGuire program was established in 1993 by Dr. Bill and Nadine McGuire to fund residencies with visual artists who collaborate with PK-12 students and faculty, enriching Blake’s visual arts curriculum.
