Anil Chandiramani Joe Chisler

Every year, Blake recognizes a faculty member who has taken the time to give of themself to students in a special way—as mentor, confidant, tutor, or friend—and a staff member who has gone above and beyond in their role at Blake.

The 2022 Juliet Nelson Award goes to Upper School English teacher Anil Chandiramani. In nominating Chandiramani for this recognition, one of his students wrote:

“Always open to talk, Mr. Chandiramani has been a voice of reason and a friend to me this year. I have really appreciated his openness to talking about difficult issues and current events. He has not only helped me to become a better writer, but a more nuanced thinker as well. I have been able to come to him in times of frustration and hurt, but also in search of a rational person to talk to. It also seems like he learns from students just as much as he teaches them. I have benefited greatly from knowing Mr. Chandiramani, and I hope he is recognized for the value he brings as a member of the Blake community.”

The 2022 Staff Recognition Award goes to bus driver Joe Chisler. In her announcement of Chisler as this year’s winner, Associate Head of School Anne Graybeal shared:

“For the last 12 years, Joe has shown all of us what it means to live in community. From his stalwart support for everything from LearningWorks to Legacy Day to his sincere, joyful and full-throated engagement in Blake’s commitment to pluralism, there is no part of this school that he hasn’t inspired, connected to or invested in.”
