Bear Pause: Libby Franchot '17

Libby Franchot ʼ17 graduated from Carleton College last June and is working as a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual. When she's not working with clients, Libby is always looking for new adventures and rescheduling ones that had to be pushed off due to the pandemic. (She’s pictured here hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.)

Q: What is the most important room in your home?
A: My deck! I love being outside as much as possible (weather permitting).

Q: In what ways are you the same as your childhood self?
A: I'm a talker. Ask any of the teachers I've had, they will confirm. Although I like to think the impulsivity that was there in Lower School is controlled now (haha).

Q: What did you want to be when you were small?
A: For the longest time, I wanted to be a rock star when I grew up.

Q: What's your favorite family tradition?
A: Christmas Eve dinner at my grandma's house with my family. She always opens up her fireplace for it.

Q: What story does your family always tell about you?
A: As a kid I was a very, VERY picky eater. I would walk downstairs and declare what color day it was and only eat that color. Blue days were the hardest according to my mom—lots of blueberries on those days.

Q: What are your three favorite smells?
A: Lavender, outside right before and after it rains, and new carpet

Q: What teacher inspired you the most? How?
A: Amy Walters, sixth grade math. I went in thinking math was the absolute worst, but she really showed me that just because it wasn't easy didn't mean I couldn't do it.

Q: If you could live inside any sitcom, which one would it be?
A: "Parks and Rec"—my favorite

Q: When you were little, who was your favorite superhero and why?
A: Growing up, and even to this day, Batman is my favorite superhero. I've always loved the fact that Batman doesn't have superpowers like most other superheroes we see—he's a normal human who is still able to kick butt.

Q: Who is your hero?
A: My mom. She pours so much into her students and also into her family. She's always been there with me and is my biggest supporter. I will always look up to her.
