Bear Pause: Amy Schachtman Zaroff ’90

Amy Schachtman Zaroff ’90 believes every day is a reason to celebrate. She values meaningful connections with people who can teach her something new. She asks a lot of questions because she genuinely wants to know more about the answers. She loves spending time with her family and friends and enjoys giving back to others as much as she is able.

Q: What is your proudest achievement?
A: Having our sons, Jordan and Noah, with my husband, David

Q: What did you want to be when you were small?
A: A broadcast journalist and work for Ted Koppel on Nightline

Q: What are the three values you treasure most in a friendship?
A: Honesty, integrity and authenticity

Q: What is the best gift you have been given?
A: Good health

Q: What piece of advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
A: Fail fast, learn from it and move on

Q: In what ways are you the same as your childhood self?
A: Stubborn, tenacious and resilient

Q: What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
A: Barry Manilow—Yes. I said it.

Q: What teacher inspired you the most? How?
A: Mr. [Rod] Anderson. I took every single Upper School social studies class. He made learning fun and encouraged us to dig deeper into everything we learned about.

Q: If you are outside, what are you most likely doing?
A: Paddle board yoga or boating

Q: Who is your hero?
A: My father. He works hard, plays hard and has a heart of gold. He would give you the shirt off of his back.

Q: What’s your dream job?
A: Talk show host

Q: It has been said that everyone gets 15 minutes of fame. What happened during your 15 minutes?
A: It lasted longer. Danielle Fagre Arlowe ’90, my “Hyperbole” podcast co-host, and I think we are famous every time we record. LOL!

Q: What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?
A: How lucky I am to live the life I have been blessed with.
