Overview

At the Middle School

  • Each Middle School student is assigned an advisor whose job it is to know each advisee very well, and who thus becomes a family member’s first point of contact should any concerns or questions arise. Advisory groups are made up of approximately 10 students and are lead by faculty (who are also one of the advisee’s teachers). The advisory groups meet formally once a week and informally twice a week. Students change advisors every year.
  • Before classes begin in the fall, pertinent information, gathered from both parents and teachers, about students with individual learning or emotional challenges is shared with faculty within the bounds of confidentiality described above.
  • Two times a week, grade-level teachers meet for the purpose of identifying students who may be struggling academically and/or socially and who might benefit from a specific action plan, including possible referral to the SST. Notes of these meetings are shared with the Middle School director as well as with the members of the Student Support Team for possible further action.
  • Student Support Team (described above):  Members of the Middle School SST include the Middle School director, the counselors, the learning specialist, the assistant Middle School director and the director of student activities.
  • The directors and Student Services staff of Lower and Middle Schools meet each spring to discuss the support needs of the rising sixth grade class.
