Arts education isn't an "extra" – it's intrinsic to Blake's curriculum.
At Blake, we view all students as emerging artists. Our young artists develop abilities and habits of mind that complement their academic learning. They communicate ideas precisely, using all available tools. They analyze and respond to others' creative efforts. They solve technical problems. They refine their skills and revise their work until it is the best it can be.
Our students have classes in visual arts, music and theatre from kindergarten through grade five. Having learned the fundamentals of these three disciplines, students participate in a performance-based music class (choir, band or orchestra) throughout Middle School, in addition to Theatre, Wood Studio and Visual Arts. Upper School students can choose among electives ranging from Musical Theatre to Digital Filmmaking to fulfill graduation requirements. For details about programs in our arts curriculum, see our Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, and Speech & Debate pages.
