New Leaders Emerge for Blake Basketball (Basketball: Girls Varsity, Basketball: Boys C-Squad, Basketball: Boys Varsity)
The Blake School Athletic Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Kruger to the position of Head Boys’ Varsity Basketball Coach and Randy Hobbs as Head Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach.
Coach Kruger has been the Blake Boys’ Varsity Assistant Coach for the past seven seasons. Along with [former head coach] Nick Rathmann, Coach Kruger helped to lead the Bears to their most successful season on record finishing as Tri-Metro Conference Co-Champions and an overall record of 24 wins and 4 losses. Proficient in the game of x’s and o’s, Coach Kruger was instrumental in developing game plans and scouting opponents for the Bears.
Coach Kruger is the owner and program director of the Minnesota Select Basketball. In this role, Coach Kruger is in charge of all Minnesota Select traveling basketball teams including the recruitment of players and coaches as well as coordinating team practice and tournament schedules. Coach Kruger will be assisted on the sidelines by longtime basketball coach and Upper School teacher Jim Arnold.
Coach Randy Hobbs steps in to lead the Blake Girls’ Basketball Program with a wealth of coaching experience. Coach Hobbs has most recently been an Assistant Varsity Girls’ Basketball Coach at Benilde-St. Margaret’s and also has coaching experience in St. Louis Park and at Minneapolis South High School.
Coach Hobbs impressed the search committee with his outgoing personality and his pledge to develop the girls’ program as a whole. Coach Hobbs believes that his strengths lie in his ability to motivate his players and impart on them a high level of competitiveness and sportsmanship. Coach Hobbs hopes to help all of his players reach their highest potential both on and off the court.
