Nick Brunette '09 Competes on Amherst Hockey Team
Nick Brunette '09, just completed his junior season with the Amherst College Hockey Team. Amherst College, part of the New England Small College Athletic Conference(NESCAC), had an outstanding season. The Amherst Lord Jeffs won the regular season conference title with a 17-1 conference record and 24-4-1 overall record.
Amherst won the NESCAC post season conference tournament with wins over Hamilton College(6-0), Williams College(2-1), and Middlebury College(4-3), earning an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Amherst entered the NCAA tournament ranked 2nd nationally in DIII hockey. Amherst beat Plattsburgh State 3-1 in the NCAA quarterfinal, earning a trip to the DIII Frozen Four held in Lake Placid, NY on March 16th and 17th. Amherst played against Oswego State in their semifinal game. The game went into overtime when Amherst scored the tying goal with just 22 seconds left in the 3rd period. Unfortunately, Amherst went on to lose 2-1 in a thrilling overtime period.
Brunette had 16 points(5 goals, 11 assists) in 29 games played this season.
