One Library to Another
If there’s one thing the Blake community values, it's a good book. And just before winter break, the Upper School library donated nearly 700 good books to a great cause. The city of Lake Elmo is in the midst of establishing a new public library system to replace the Rosalie E. Wahl Branch library, which Washington County is shutting down on Dec. 31, 2011, after 45 years in operation.
Looking to equip the new library, the city and the Friends of the Lake Elmo Library have put out a call for donations of books, multimedia, furnishings and money through an effort called Operation Bookstrap.
Having refreshed its own collection of reading materials, Blake’s Upper School library staff was delighted to offer up the 1,350 books that had been recently removed from circulation to help Lake Elmo fill the shelves of its new library. Volunteers from Lake Elmo spent an afternoon at Blake selecting items, ultimately accepting about half the School’s offering.
