Blake Collects • Living with Art

This spring the School will be hosting a very special exhibit in the Martha Bennett Gallery of the Northrop campus. Blake Collects • Living with Art will showcase the many and varied art collected by members of the Blake community. The exhibition will run Monday, March 1 through Friday, April 9 with an opening reception on Tuesday, March 2.

Our wonderfully diverse Blake community appreciates many kinds of art. Blake Collects presents a remarkable opportunity to bring art you love and live with into our school for others to discover and enjoy. By sharing the art you love and collect, we can learn a bit more about each other and the world of art.

You and your family are invited to contribute to this exhibit with a loan of a piece or select pieces. We hope to fill the gallery with a wide range of artwork, including paintings, sculpture, photographs, ceramics, textiles, drawings, and prints — whatever kind of art you collect! Contemporary works on paper, books, moving images and decorative arts are also welcome.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Tracy Grimm in the Communications Office no later than Tuesday, Nov. 24. The Upper School visual arts department will select the pieces for display in early December, taking into account the show’s goals of overall balance of art type and media with space limitations of the Bennett Gallery. If your piece(s) is selected, we ask that your artwork be brought to the Bennett Gallery on Saturday, Feb. 27 and picked up on Saturday, April 10. The installation will be overseen by Museum Services, Inc. of Minneapolis, which will ensure the most professional and safe installation of your artwork. Our Upper School visual arts faculty and student members of Blake’s National Art Honor Society will assist.

We will create all object labels for your art and narrative text, but lenders may be requested to write a brief statement about why having artwork in their residence is important, why collecting artwork is of personal interest, and what suggestions or strategies for collecting they might share.

We hope that you consider contributing to Blake Collects. This promises to be an educational and community-building show.
