Sundays at the Blake School Reading Series Presents
|
Sarah Fox and John Colburn
|
On Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. poets Sarah Fox and John Colburn will be reading at the Northrop Campus of the Blake School (the Upper School). The Northrop Campus is located at 511 Kenwood Parkway, just west of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
Sarah Fox's latest work is entitled because why (Coffee House Press). It has received favorable reviews both locally, in the Twin Cities, and regionally. Her poetry has been described "as a gift" that presents "art, science, pop culture, religion, motherhood, loverhood -- all gathered in the necessary service of dumbstruck awe."
In addition to being a writer, Fox is a doula, a publisher, and a teacher of poetry and creative writing.
John Colburn is an editor and publisher at Spout Press and a member of the improvised music group Astronaut Cooper's Parade. His poetry chapbook Kissing was published by Fuori Editions in 2002, and a second chapbook, The Lawrence Welk Diaries, was published by WinteRed Press in 2006. Colburn teaches writing at the Perpich Center for the Arts.
The series will continue on May 6 with a reading by two more Coffee House Press writers -- Sun Ying Shin and Greg Hewett. Shin's latest book, Skirt Full of Black, navigates the politics of gender, ethnicity, and identity, particularly in relation to her Korean roots. Hewett's latest, The Eros Conspiracy, is an urbane and sophisticated meditation on sexuality, politics, and history.
Blake School is an independent, pre-kindergarten through grade 12 school located on three campuses in the Minneapolis metropolitan area. As a community, we are committed to integrity, courage, love of learning, and respect.
