College Board Names Blake National Leader in AP English Literature & Composition
|
Of Blake Upper School's 385 enrolled students, 107 earned a score of 3 or higher on the AP English Literature & Composition exam in 2006. If this statistic sounds impressive, that's because it is: no other school of Blake's size in the nation can claim such an achievement. According to the College Board's recently released Advanced Placement Report to the Nation, Blake's 2006 AP exam results show that the school leads the nation in both participation and performance in this subject area for a school its size (300-799 students in grades 10 through 12). Blake is also the only Minnesota school cited in the report.
In a letter to Upper School Director Marc Bogursky, College Board Program Associate Laura Molito offered congratulations and called Blake a model for schools worldwide in preparing students for success in AP courses.
Head of School John Gulla expressed his pride in Blake's engaging, rigorous and very successful English curricula. "The results reflect the high caliber and the hard work of Blake students and teachers," he said.
The College Board identified Blake as leading the nation in AP English Literature & Composition because it has "enabled the broadest segment of its overall student body to earn a score of 3 or higher on the exam for that subject area." The report includes state-level data about AP participation and performance and also contains a report on the status of each individual AP subject area, citing the nation's leading schools in that AP subject.
Congratulations to Blake's outstanding English teachers and students!
