Blake Debate Team an Inarguable Success

Congratulations to Blake's debate team members, who are off to an incredible season start. The team has had members place at every local tournament attended, as well as some success at larger national tournaments.
Highlights include:
At the first tournament of the year, junior John Scoggin was a finalist in Lincoln-Douglas at the Mid-America Cup in Des Moines, Iowa. Scoggin was also a finalist at the Royal Cup Invitational held at Hopkins High School, where he also won a scholarship to Victory Briefs Camp, as well as a finalist at the Highland Park Invitational. In policy debate, Scoggin and his partner, Lucy Litman '08, placed third at the Coon Rapids Opener.
The public forum team of Matt Aizpuru '08 and Fred Zhang '08 has placed second at two of the three tournaments attended, the Coon Rapids Invitational and the Eagan Wild Cat.
In addition to having a strong showing in junior varsity Lincoln-Douglas debating at a number of tournaments, Julia Hawkins '08 was the second speaker in public forum at Benilde St. Margaret's.
Blake's novice team has met with outstanding success as well. At the Coon Rapids Opener, Blake placed first, second, fourth and fifth. At the Coon Rapids Invitational, Blake finished first, second, third, fifth, and sixth. Those novices contributing greatly to the team's overall success include: freshmen Marlee Stesin and Natalie Gould, sophomores Eric Rommel and Alex Noot, freshmen Paul Koullick and David Kang, Tom Madsen and Chris Madsen, Cam Falvey and Rob Patchen, Novice team member Phelan O'Neill '10 was a finalist at the Highland Park Invitational in his first outing in junior varsity Lincoln-Douglas.
