Blake has taken back its title as Class A Challenge Cup champion. For the second time in three years, Blake has won the statewide, year-long competition among Minnesota State High School League member schools. The Bears won the award in 2005 and finished second last year.
Challenge Cup points are awarded to schools based on their success in post-season tournament play. The two schools one in Class A and one in Class AA that earn the most points at the end of the year are awarded the traveling Challenge Cup. Wayzata was this year's Class AA winner.
Blake earned 503 points in 14 activities including championships in girls' hockey and boys' Alpine skiing. Other points came from boys' and girls' cross country running, debate, girls' golf, boys' hockey, girls' lacrosse, girls' Nordic ski racing, speech, boys' and girls' swimming and diving, boys' tennis, and girls' track and field.
Other top finishers in the Class A competition include Perham with 465 points, last year's winner, St. Cloud Cathedral, with 286 points, and Breck with 267 points. The League will present both Blake and Wayzata with the Challenge Cup in ceremonies this fall. The School will also receive a replica of the cup to keep for permanent display.
