Family Education
The educational attainment of a student’s guardians has a significant impact on the student’s educational attainment.
- In 1999, 82% of students whose parents had at least a bachelor’s degree enrolled in college right after high school, compared with 54% of students whose parents completed high school, and 36% of students whose parents had not completed high school (Wirt, Choy, Gerald, Provasnik, Rooney, Watanabe, Tobin, & Glander, 2001).
Giving LearningWorks students opportunities for success, regardless of their guardians’ education, is vital for bridging the gap between economic status and higher education.
- 65% of LearningWorks parents/guardians have not received a four-year college degree
- 14% of LearningWorks guardians do not have a HS diploma/G.E.D.
