This year's Blake Classic — the Blake Classic Prom — the biennial all-school fundraiser, will be quite the extravaganza. The event will be held at the Blake ice arena on the Hopkins campus Saturday, May 3, 2008. Come join 600 or so fellow parents, alumni, faculty and staff for a fabulous evening of camaraderie, dining, entertainment and a not-to-be-missed live auction. Our silent auction will be held online again this year which means everyone gets an opportunity to participate in the fun that is the Classic. This will be a promising night for a promising future!
What is the Blake Classic?
The Blake Classic is the only all-school fundraiser, now in its 12th year. Formerly held every year, the Classic now alternates years with the Celebration of Community. The Classic is an evening of socializing with Blake friends (parents, alumni, faculty and staff), dining on wonderful food, sipping fabulous cocktails, bidding on wonderful items in the live auction, and enjoying wonderful entertainment. All monies raised from the Classic go to support the wonderful programs, teachers, facilities, and opportunities provided to our children as part of their magical Blake experience.
How much money does the Classic raise and where does it come from?
The Classic typically raises between $200,000 - $250,000. This year we are hoping to set another record - $300,000 or more! This is particularly important since the Classic is now help every two years. The Classic profits come from many sources: live and silent auction proceeds, event ticket sales, generous donators and underwriters, Blakestakes tickets sales, and advertising revenue.
Where do the proceeds of the Classic go?
The proceeds of the Classic go directly back to support the programs, initiatives, and facilities that benefit our children and our school. The great work of the Parent Association is funded by the Blake Classic, as are major initiatives in the school's yearly operating budget. In addition, funds raised go to support one or more of the 3 As — arts, athletics, and academics. Previous Classics have supported technology purchases for the classrooms, playground equipment, teacher development, renovation of the Bovey Chapel, the Black Box Theatre, and construction of the Spirit Rock Plaza (part of the Gordy Aamoth, Jr. Memorial Stadium).
What does the Parent Association provide?
The Parent Association, through active parent involvement, helps to support and advance the mission and core values of the Blake School. It does this through a myriad of volunteer activities and strong financial support of many programs and initiatives. Some of those include: grade/room representatives, after-school programs, Art Adventure, Destination ImagiNation, grade/campus parties (bingo night, pumpkin parties, dances, skating parties, concert/play receptions, closing/graduation parties), faculty/staff appreciation, magazine drive, ski day, and family/service learning. What is Blakestakes?
Blakestakes is a raffle, the prize for which is a free year's Blake School tuition for one child. Tickets are sold prior to the event (you will be receiving a mailing in April) and the evening of the event.

Invitations will be arriving in your mail just after to Spring Break. Make sure you don't miss out — respond early - the 2006 event was a sellout and we are expecting this year's will be too!
