Harriers Perform Well at State;
Coach Lee Earns Coach of the Year Lauds

The Blake School cross-country coach Gary Lee is among the most experienced coaches in the state of Minnesota, he has been The Blake School’s head coach for 23 seasons. During his tenure Lee has had some very talented runners who have made it to the Minnesota State Cross Country Tournament. Unfortunately, his teams have never had the depth to make the trip to State. Last year Lee’s Bears came close. With the top two finishers in each section advancing to State, both the boys and girls teams finished third in sections.

With some quality returnees this season, the Bears became even more competitive in conference and section competition. So competitive in fact that the boys’ team placed second in the Section 4A Championships and the girls’ captured the crown. For the first time in Blake School history a team earned a berth in the Minnesota State Cross Country meet, in fact two teams made the trip to state!

The Blake boys’ finished an impressive tenth as a team and senior, captain Dylan Cater finished second in a field of the state’s best. The Blake girls’ team came in an incredible third place at State with sophomores Katharine Chute and Claire Richardson finishing third and fourth respectively and eighth grader Margaret Chute coming in seventh.

Adherently record-breaking seasons and firsts in school history don’t go unnoticed. Head coach Gary Lee, who for his and his teams’ efforts was awarded Section 4A Coach of the Year by the Minnesota State High School Cross Country Coaches Association.

Congratulations to the Bears and to Coach Lee for their commitment and success this season.
