Reynolds Selects Emory

Alisha Reynolds

Alisha Reynolds The Blake School senior Alisha Reynolds has committed to attend Emory University located in Atlanta, Georgia and run track for the Eagles. Emory is a private research university in Atlanta Georgia. The Eagles are members of the University Athletic Association, an NCAA Division III conference.

The University Athletic Association is an NCAA Division III athletic conference whose member teams are eight leading universities committed to academic and athletic excellence. The other conference members are: Brandeis University, Case Western Reserve University, New York University, University of Chicago, University of Rochester and Washington University in St. Louis.

John Curtin coaches the Eagles and in his 19 years at Emory, Curtin's track and field athletes have amassed 47 All-America certificates and 256 conference event championships.

Thirteen times, Curtin and his assistants have been honored by the University Athletic Association as its track and field "Coaching Staff of the Year." The most recent honor came in 2004 after Emory won the men's team title and its women's team finished second at the UAA outdoor track and field championships. Curtin is a 1974 graduate of Drake University (Iowa) and earned his master's degree from Drake in 1984.

Keith Clark, Blake assistant track and field coach surveys Alisha's talent, "Alisha is one of the rare high school sprinters whereby her sprint times improved significantly each track season over the course of four years. Her college coach will have a wonderful opportunity to continue this progression as Alisha enjoys track practice and displays positive energy at all times.~Alisha was a major contributor to the team that won the 2006 Class A track championship and is a leader of the 2007 team that is trying to repeat as state champions."

Of her college selection Reynolds reflects, "My decision to attend Emory was an easy one. Upon visiting the school for the first time in my junior year I fell in love with the school. To me it was a fitting continuation of my Blake education. The academics are competent, the faculty is caring, the campus is lovely and comfortable, the community is are energetic and safe, and lastly the Track and Field program will suit me just as well as the program here."

"When I contacted their sprinting coach, he expressed his excitement and interest in my participation on their team. I am confident that I will be able to excel in Division III sports, and Emory has a great team and coaches," Alisha articulates.

Alisha Reynolds is not just a talented track and field athlete. She carries a 3.7 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Roll and has been recognized as a member of Who's Who in High School students as well as being part of Blake's hip-hop dance troupe Stepps. At Emory, Reynolds, who earned Dean's Recognition as a junior, will pursue a pre-dental track and major in Biology.

Blake assistant athletic director Rick Johns quips, "Alisha Reynolds' talents, warmth and kind spirit have created smiles in the Blake community for years. Next, by way of her chosen career path and Emory University, she will create many lifetimes of smiles."
