The Blake School Athletic Department is excited to announce that the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association has honored Robert "Tess" Teslow and Jason Shantz as Championship Coaches.
Head boys' and girls' Alpine ski coach Robert Teslow is entering his 34th year at the helm of the Blake Alpine program and some say it's "a given" that The Blake School head coach will be at the State Alpine Tournament and there is no sense in arguing. Tess has made the trip to State with a team or an individual for the last 28 consecutive years, is a five time MSHSCA "Coach of the Year" and has been duly recognized by Minnesota State High School Alpine Ski Coaches Association.
Since 1978 Teslow led teams have complied an amazing 517 and 88 record, while notching 32 Conference, and 37 Section titles, to go with 4 Minnesota State Championships.
Teslow is a renowned leader in the area of high school Alpine skiing. He currently serves as the Co-president of the Minnesota State High School Alpine Ski Coaches Association, has served on the MSHSL's Sport Advisory Committee and as a MSHSCA Sports Association Delegate for Girls' and Boys' Alpine Skiing, as well as a USSA-Central Division, Region I Board Member and as a Rules Clinician for the MSHSL.
The MSHSCA honored Tess for his team's accomplishment as 2006 Class A State Champions.
Entering his ninth year with the Blake track and field team, head coach, Jason Shantz has experienced many team and individual accomplishments. Since taking over direction of the team in 1999, the Bears have placed in the top five at the State meet four times including the girls' Class A championship in 2001 and 2006.
Shantz has coached over thirty All-State athletes, eight individual State Champions and two state individual record holders- Anne Hillier 400m 2001 and Isaac Anderson 100m 2005.
Coach Shantz, who holds a Master's Degree in Applied Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport and Exercise Science, is a highly respected educator. Jason has been named as Sub-section 28A Coach of the Year, Section 4A girls' Coach of the Year and is an inductee in Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
The MSHSCA honored Jason for his team's accomplishment as 2006 Class A State Champions.
