Blake Boys Earn 7th Place Finish in Class A; Bears Amass 7 All State Performances.


Last March Blake School head track and Field coach Jason Shantz predicted, “The boys’ could be a real Cinderella team this season, these guys could surprise a lot of teams. The challenge for our coaches and captains will be getting the team to gel together as one come May. If we can accomplish this task, only good things can happen for the boys.”

Shantz and his senior captains J.R. Roland and Ben White were able to help their team gel in May. The Bears captured 5th place at the Tri-Metro Conference Meet, 5th place at subsections, 9th of 30 teams in sections with a culmination of a 7th place finish at the Minnesota Class A Track and Field Meet.

The Blake School sent a team of 4 talented athletes against all comers at the National Sports Center in Blaine and each one came away with All State recognition.

The Bear’s 4x100 Meter Relay consisting of senior JR Roland, along with juniors Chris Murray, Isaiah Ellison and Isaac Anderson finished in second place with a time 43.78. This band of blazers missed first place by three one-hundredths of a second.

In other performances JR Roland nailed a triple jump of 42 feet 9 inches, good for 8th place. Junior sprinter Isaiah Ellison captured 5th place in the 100 meters with a time of 11.53. While his teammate Isaac Anderson captured the gold with a time of 11.43.

The Bear’s greatest performance was in the preliminaries of the 100 meters on June 10th when junior sprinter Isaac Anderson set a Minnesota Class A record for the 100 meters with a stunning time of 10.94.

Although the Blake School girls’ team finished a distant 26th in Class A, they nonetheless posted three All State performances at the National Sports Center. Laura Komarek’s discus toss of 116’ 1” was good for 7th place, Claire Richardson’s 3200 run time of 11:12:04 earned sixth place and Kyndal Hargrow’s 400 dash time of 58.78 was good for 4th place. All three girls are sophomores.
