Golf: Boys Varsity
Team Info
Coach: Bruce Archibald
Our golf program typically consists of a varsity and junior varsity team, with the varsity competing in 16 matches during the spring followed by section and state tournament play. The boys’ golf season usually starts indoors in early March and moves outdoors after spring break. The varsity home course is The Minikahda Club, which was founded in 1898 and has an outstanding tradition having hosted several major golf events, including the US Open, the US Men’s & US Women’s Amateur Championship, and the Walker Cup. Playing beautiful and rigorous tests of golf on a regular basis has helped to strengthen the skills and the golf game of our golfers these past 30 years.
Blake participates in the Tri-Metro Conference in which we have won the championship over twenty times in the past thirty years. The Tri-Metro Conference is a very competitive conference and regularly sends teams and individuals to state competition. Blake has been a team participant at the state tournament at least seven times during the last thirty years and won the state Class A tournament in 1982, 1984, 1997, took second in 2000, and third in 1985. We also had individual state champions from Blake in 1982 and 1985. Several of our young men have gone on to play college golf at schools like Stanford, Georgetown, Boston College, Villanova, Stetson, Lafayette, Gustavus Adolphus, St. John’s University and the University of Minnesota.
