2006-2007 Nordic Skiing Preview
|
The 2006-2007 Nordic cross country team boasts one of the strongest girls' team in recent history, led by Laura Christensen (captain), Molly Hayssen (captain), Claire Richardson (two time state qualifier), Emily Moos (All Conference skier), Louise Winslow, and Britney Hulbert. The remainder of the team includes strong potential from the top middle school runners from the cross country team that finished second at state this year including Shaina Rud, Courtney Alpeter, Sydney Armstrong, and Christine Nolan.
The boys' team is lead by senior captain Ray Carlson, Michael Lee and Erik Floren. The team has recruited some of the top runners from the cross country team as well, including Kent Carlson and Brandon Clark. Returning skiers (and the teams best waxers) include Sam Levi and Jeffrey Schroeder.
The goals of the girls' team are straightforward, have fun skiing in a life sport and to support individual and team goals. The girls' team will build on the past two years success and score high again as a team at the Conference and Section meet. Claire Richardson has a strong chance to return to State as an individual 'pursuit' skier and Emily Moos has a good chance to ski at state for the first time.
The goals of the guys' team are to have fun and place the highest it ever has at Conference and they have a good chance to finish in the top three places. Ray Carlson and Erik Floren have a good chance at All Conference Honors.
Scoring and Rule Changes for this year
- Every major race will be a pursuit race. With two disciplines (classic and skate), the first session (it is often classic) will start skiers every 15 seconds. The second session will start skiers based on their times from the first session. This means if skier A's time was 14 minutes and Skier B's was 15 minutes from the first session, Skier A would start first and Skier B would start 1 minute later.
- To qualify for state, the top two teams in each section plus the top pursuit skiers from the non-qualifying teams will go north! The state competition no longer recognizes individual disciplines.
- The Conference Championship scores the top six skiers in pursuit
- The Section and State Championship scores the top four skiers in pursuit
