2008 Girls' Lacrosse Preview
|
The Bears will step on the field this year with a strong core of returning players as well as several promising newcomers. Head Coach Laura Mark and Assistant Coach Erin Scearcy are excited to start 2008 with a continued commitment to improving fundamental skills, focusing on team play and giving 100% each day.
The strength of the 2008 Bears lacrosse team will be its team speed and athleticism at every position. Defensively the Bears will rely on senior captain and 2007 second team all-state defender Jamie McLaughlin and 2007 first team all-state goalie, Abby Fink '09. Adding to the defensive line-up this year will be returning juniors Hilary Hayssen, Kathryn Vincent and Ronni Petereson as well as newcomer Kate Gallagher '08.
Blake's team speed is especially apparent in its midfield, led by senior captain Emily Moos and 2007 first team all-state selection, Margaret Chute '09. Moos and Chute are joined by returning starters Kelly Grant '09 and Alyssa Veil '11. New talent at the midfield includes Abbie Lund '11, Hilary Crowe '11 and Ashley Deutschlander '10.
Offensively the team will look to first team all-state selection and 2007 leading scorer, Michelle Tremblay, '09 and returning seniors Julia Hawkins and Jillian Avery. Newcomers Brit Randolph '08, Liza Winton, '09 and Ashley Cathcart '10 are also expected to score key goals for the Bears this season.
There is no denying the Bears' goal this year will be to find their way back to the Section Five Championships and the 2008 Minnesota State High School league sponsored playoffs. With a strong schedule, including games against defending state champions, Eden Prairie and section rivals Edina and Benilde, the 2008 team will need to remain focused and committed to team play and hard work to get there.
