Laura Mark Heads Girls' Lacrosse Program

Laura MarkThe Blake School Athletic Department is excited to announce the appointment of Laura Mark to the position of Head Girls' Lacrosse Coach. Laura's lacrosse background includes a number of playing and coaching experiences that will help her oversee the school's program. Laura's playing experience includes a prep career at Deerfield Academy. Laura was captain of her Big Green lacrosse team and earned MVP honors.

Coach Mark was also a skillful hockey player at Deerfield, both ice hockey and field hockey. She was captain of both teams, MVP of the field hockey team and as a senior was named All American in field hockey.

Upon graduation Mark attended and graduated with honors from the University of Virginia. As a Cavalier, Laura excelled in both field hockey and lacrosse. Mark earned second team All American lauds and was captain of a field hockey team that was national semifinalists two years running. Mark's lacrosse squad squared off with Maryland for the national championship her junior year and fell in the NCAA quarterfinals her senior season.

Laura Mark's coaching career started at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ, where as an English teacher she also served as head coach of junior varsity field hockey and lacrosse.

Laura arrived at Blake in 2005 after experience with Sports Illustrated and Fallon Worldwide to become a Major Gift's Officer in the Department of Institutional Advancement as well as the Bear's varsity assistant girls' lacrosse coach. Last summer Mark was promoted to Blake's Director of the Annual Fund and head girls' lacrosse coach.

When asked to reflect upon her assent to head coach Mark observed, "I am so fortunate to come into a program that has deep pool of talented and hard working players and coaches, starting with our middle school program and continuing all the way through our junior varsity and varsity teams. Nearly twelve years ago, Deb Wood established the Blake tradition of teamwork, sportsmanship and fundamentally sound play and I look forward to building upon that framework in the years ahead. In addition, I hope to continue to grow the number of girls who are involved in our program and to provide opportunities for our players to develop their skills and compete against the very best.

Laura Mark's husband Ethan is a 1995 Blake grad and her father is Blake's newly appointed athletic director Jim Lindsay. Laura has one brother, Matt who is an NCAA Division I assistant hockey coach at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh PA. One could say coaching runs in Laura's family!

Please congratulate Laura on her expanded role in the Blake Athletic Community.
