Triple Threat Boyd Awarded Athena

Kendall Boyd

The Blake School senior Kendall Boyd is one of 58 Minneapolis area girls honored by their high schools as Athena Award recipients. The Athena has been awarded annually for 33 years to a high school’s top senior female student-athlete.

Boyd is a true triple threat. She excels in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. Boyd has earned 11 varsity letters at The Blake School and is on track to earn her 12th in lacrosse this May.

Kendall first surfaced on the varsity athletic scene as an flashy eighth grade guard with a hair-trigger jump shot and tenacious defensive skills and has been the heart and soul of the girls' hard court team ever since. Kendall has earned All Tri-Metro Conference lauds as a junior and a senior, she was awarded the teams "Hustle Award" as a sophomore and a junior and senior and was honored as the team Most Valuable Player in her senior year. Boyd has been a captain of the team since her sophomore year.

Next, Kendall made an impact on the soccer pitch. Boyd was a 2-year starter in the nets for the Bears and complied gaudy stats in a tough, talent rich Tri-Metro conference. Head girls' soccer coach Paul Menge remarks of Kendall’s game, "Kendall is very skilled. She is good in the air and is very quick on her feet." Kendall was selected to the All-Tri-Metro Conference team and was the Bears MVP as a senior.

Kendall has been part of three lacrosse state tournament teams at Blake. She is a key to the Bears' stingy defense. Boyd, a 2004 All State selection is a player head girls' lacrosse coach Debra Wood calls, "a dominant force on defense.” Boyd was named Rookie of the year in 2002 and is co-captain this season.

Boyd has also been recognized for her academic talents. She received the Dean's Recognition Award for Leadership as a freshman. She also received the Connecticut College Award, (awarded to a sophomore who has attended Blake School for at least two years and who is recognized by the faculty for his/her outstanding scholarship and contribution to the life of the school) and is a National Achievement Commended Student. Boyd will attend Emory University in Atlanta in the fall, and has been recruited to play basketball for the Emory Eagles. Kendall plans to major in engineering.
