Will cake be on the dessert menu for the Blake School girls hockey team this weekend?

The Bears, who won their first non-conference game of the season 7-0 over Silver Bay Nov. 10, are ready to compete in the annual Cake-Eater Classic Friday, Nov. 23, and Saturday, Nov. 24, at Edina's Braemar Arena.

In the first round at 6 p.m. on the 23rd, Blake will play Shakopee. Then at 8 p.m., Edina will take on Breck.

The losers will play for third place at 6 p.m. Saturday and the winners will play for the title at 8 p.m.

"We're looking forward to a very competitive tournament," said Edina head coach Mark Stephan, whose club is hosting the event.

Blake coach Brano Stankovsky, now in his 10th season, guided the Bears to the state Class A championship in 2007. Blake finished the season 26-4-0 overall.

All-State selections Margaret Chute and Sally Komarek return from the state championship team.

Senior captains Sam Butters and Kate Dasburg are two more key players.

Other returning letter winners are: Gina Abrego, Chloe Billadeau, Andrea Foss, Hillary Hayssen, Abbie Lund, Courtney Randolph, Olivia Rotenberg, Michelle Tremblay and Alyssa Veil.

New to varsity this season are Addie Adams, Allie Austin, Sara Cole, Hillary Crowe, Kate Gallagher and Morgan Oie.

Assistant coaches on Stankovsky's staff are Keith Radloff, Casey Oie and Bryan Carlson.

Gallagher was in the nets as Blake defeated Silver Bay in the season opener. Komarek was the star of the game, scoring five goals, and Lund had the other two Blake goals
