Bowens-Rubin to Play at MIT

Rachel Bowens-Rubin

Rachel Bowens-RubinThe Blake School senior goalie Rachel Bowens-Rubin has committed to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and participate in ice hockey for the Engineers. MIT is a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), a NCAA Division III school and posted a 5 and 14 record in 2006-2007.

Danielle Holtschlag who just finished her second at the helm on MIT's program coaches the Engineers. Holtschlag, previous coaching experience includes a stint as an MIT assistant and an assistant coach with Brookline (Mass.) High School.

Dani Holtschlag's collegiate career was spent at Princeton University. Holtschlag was a four-year letter winner, a three-year captain and as a senior was honored with Princeton's Patty Kazmaier Award, which is given to the senior member of the team who has made the greatest contributions to the program during her career, and best exemplified loyalty and devotion to Princeton's women's ice hockey with determination and perseverance under adverse conditions.

Of her college selection Bowens-Rubin reflects, "MIT will provide infinite opportunities both athletically and academically. By joining a DIII team, I will have the chance to be an integral part right away."

"I've always had strong affinity towards math and science, so MIT seems like quantum leap to new ideas and interesting people. I would like to study physics and astronomy, and hopefully add to some of the Engineer's more notorious pranks (that are almost as legendary as Newton's laws themselves)!" quips Bowens-Rubin.

Whether in a lab, between the pipes or pulling a prank Rachel says she is, "Absolutely charged to diffuse into MIT's clever, goofy, radioactive culture!"
