Komarek Heading to Hartford

Laura Komarek

Laura KomarekThe Blake School senior Laura Komarek has committed to attend Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and participate in both ice hockey and track and field for the Bantams. Trinity is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and is an NCAA Division III school.

The Bantam hockey squad is coached by Andrew McPhee. Coach McPhee enters his fifth as the Trinity's head coach. McPhee, the 2005 NESCAC Coach of the Year and a finalist for the 2005 American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Coach of the Year, has played an integral role in developing the young Bantam program over the past few years.

Track and field coach George Suitor is entering his 15th season at Trinity and has elevated the Trinity College track and field program to elite status in New England. Assisting Suitor is Irv Black. Black is a former USA National throwing coach, works with the Trinity throwers.

Of her college selection Komarek muses, "I am excited about Trinity because it is a strong liberal arts school with an intimate community much like that of Blake's. I decided DIII was best for me for several reasons; I love playing both hockey and track and wanted to continue playing both in college. By choosing a DIII school I will be able to pursue both my academic and athletic goals at a great college."

"I've really enjoyed getting to know both of the coaches, Coach McPhee and Coach Suitor, and even found out during my visit to Trinity that Coach McPhee and I enjoy the same country music!" comments Komarek.

Great educational opportunity, excellent coaches, what about the facilities? "I'm very excited about the new hockey arena that Trinity built on campus this year, and hope to be a significant contributor to the Bantam hockey and track programs," replies Laura Komarek.
