2005-2006 Girls' Hockey Preview

On Monday, October 31 the 2005-2006 edition of The Blake Girls Hockey team hit the ice for this years first organized winter sports practice. Coach Stankovsky is returning for his 8th season as head coach of The Blake School Bears. While guiding the Bears, Stankovsky has compiled a record of 142-40-8. Also returning are veteran assistant Keith Radloff (5th year), Casey Oie (2nd year) and Blake hockey alum Claire Goldsmith (3rd year).

The Blake School has a veteran team this year that is led by seven seniors and five juniors while returning 13 lettermen. Returning on this years squad are All State, All State AP and Pioneer Press, All Metro Star Tribune, All Conference and top scorer Berit Johnson, All State and All Conference Katharine Chute, All Conference and one of the states top scorer Clare Zutz as well as All Conference honorable mention Alyssa Saunders and Laura Komarek.

Blake is led by four senior captains, Alyssa Saunders, Berit Johnson, Clare Zutz and Molly Stankovsky.

Other returning letter winners include Sydney Robbins, Laura Mazer, Georgie Stocks, Betsy Schnieder, Sally Komarek, Julia Heffelfinger, Gina Ferrara and Margaret Chute. Key newcomers to the program are Rachel Bowens Ruben, Samantha Butters, Sarah Cole, Katie Dasburg and Hillary Hayssen.

A strong tradition and good work ethic will be the signature of the 2005-2006 Bears as they try to recapture the Tri-Metro crown and return to the State Tournament this February. Coach Stankovsky acknowledges that this version of Bears will be very hard working and focused. The Blake School was knocked out this past season in section play by the eventual class A state champs.

The Bears posted a 18-7-3 record last season against some of the best teams in the state, while scoring 135 goals for a 4.82 average and giving up 57 goals for a 2.04 average per contest. The Bears should remain a potent offensive team with it veteran leadership and skill players but would will work hard to return to it’s roots of being a strong defensive team.
