2006 Girls' Golf Preview

This is an exciting time for The Blake School Girls’ Golf program. The Bears returns their entire squad from 2005 and will be led by All Tri-Metro performers and two-time captains Lindsay Melloh and Sydney Robbins.

The Bears are optimistic about the '06 season. Returning experienced, varsity players will add leadership qualities that this team exemplifies, while the new younger players will add depth to improve the program. Also returning to this year’s team are senior Cathy Demos, junior Kate Gordon and sophomore Paige Esterkin.

The team may have many returning veteran golfers, but the head coach will be a rookie. The Bears hired Bryan Skavnak out of the ranks of the PGA to the position of head coach. Skavnak’s golf background includes a number of playing and coaching experiences that will help him oversee the school’s program. Bryan’s coaching experience includes a position as head teaching pro at Parker’s Lake Golf Center; he also serves as an assistant golf professional at Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain, MN

"I am very excited to bring my knowledge to a team that already has a strong group of players and am looking forward to helping the girls improve," Skavnak said.

The Bears hope to take a run at the Tri-Metro crown in 2006 and the conventional wisdom is that Minnehaha Academy and the Convent School of the Visitation and the team to beat.

Senior captain Lindsay Melloh predicts, "We have great team dynamics and didn’t lose anybody from last year, so we have a really strong base and are looking forward to a fun and exciting season."
