Skavnak Named Head Girls’ Golf Coach

The Blake School Athletic Department is excited to announce the appointment of Bryan Skavnak to the position of Head Girls’ Golf Coach. Bryan’s golf background includes a number of playing and coaching experiences that will help him oversee the school’s program. Bryan’s coaching experience includes a position as head teaching pro at Parker’s Lake Golf Center; he also serves as an assistant golf professional at Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain, MN.
Skavnak is himself an experienced golfer. While attending Park Center High School Bryan was a varsity golfer and captain of his senior squad. Upon graduation Skavnak attended Saint John’s University in Collegeville, MN and played golf for four years. Skavnak completed his collegiate career as a Johnnie while earning his BA in Management with a high school coaching certificate.
Upon graduation Skavnak turned pro and began the arduous task of becoming a Class A Professional through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program. The PGM program is designed for the individual who is interested in a career as a golf professional who serves amateur golfer.
As part of his education Bryan was first required to pass a 36 hole Playing Ability Test (PAT) and was then required to complete and test out of the program’s Level 1, 2, and 3 checkpoints to graduate. Skavnak was one of one hundred ninety-four graduates, representing 41 states, who comprise two classes that were honored in ceremonies Feb. 25 and April 8, in The PGA Professional Golf Management Program at the PGA Country Club in Port Saint Lucie, FL.
Bryan brings a wealth of experience to his position serving as a tournament player and a golf professional. He has taught a variety of programs for individuals and groups including the Plymouth Park and Recreation, University of Minnesota and Twin Cities Golf Singles. In his eight years of teaching he has coached over 4,500 athletes.
Skavnak’s coaching philosophy is to, “Keep things simple and fun. I work with the skills each athlete already has and help them improve.”
