The Blake Girls' Varsity Golf Team rolls into the new season determined to fill the void left by three departed seniors. Co-captains junior Lindsay Melloh and sophomore Sydney Robbins will lead the way, supported by experienced junior Cathy Demos, sophomores Kate Gordon, Lauren Hoedeman, and Tyne Hovoda. Freshman Paige Esterkin rounds out the squad.
"Lindsay, Sydney, and Kate all have very polished short games," said first year Coach Mark Ott. "Kate can really drive the ball, Sydney is steady under pressure, Cathy has a great golf swing, and Lindsay is developing a wonderful all around game. We have a strong nucleus of golfers who can score. I am also expecting Lauren, Tyne and Paige to improve rapidly. They are all tough competitors."
Last year the team was 4-2 in conference, good enough for third place. With the rapid improvement of his young team, Ott is optimistic that they will be able to improve on that mark. Overall, the team was 6-6 last season.
"This team loves to work on their short game, and they are fierce competitors. Those two traits will lead to quick improvement," says Ott. "I expect us to surprise a lot of teams in the conference."
