Blake School’s girls basketball team showed some offensive spark in a recent 60-49 loss to St. Anthony.
Kendall Boyd, a 5-foot-6 senior guard, led the Bears with 19 points, while Melissa Davis, a 5-8 junior forward, scored 15 points.
The Bears graduated all-conference guard and Athena Award winner Abby Smith from last year’s team.
In addition to having new leaders on the floor, Blake has a new leader on the bench. Lauri Ludeman has taken over as interim head coach, replacing Kathy Sandven, who is on maternity leave.
Ludeman was head women’s coach at Augsburg College in Minneapolis before coming to Blake School. This is Ludeman’s second season at Blake.
Joining her on the coaching staff are Rob Hoops and Jon McNair.
The Bears are looking to improve on last year’s overall mark of 10-14. Ludeman looks for a balanced attack and tenacious defense.
Boyd returns as a steady playmaker and outside scoring threat.
Davis and 5-8 sophomore Mary Angela Curran are two other key players. Michael Johnson, a 5-9 junior, is an aggressive rebounder and 5-10 sophomore Laney Austin is a good shot blocker.
