2004-2005 Girls' Basketball Preview

The Blake School Girl's Basketball team plans to continue to improve this season. After graduating standout guard Abby Smith, the Bears have had to reshuffle their deck and part of the reshuffling process is at the top. Lauri Ludeman is in her second year at The Blake School and already has a new role. Ludeman will act as interim head coach while head coach Kathy Sandven is on maternity leave. Lauri is no stranger to the hardwood she was assisted at Bemidji State University and was head coach at Augsburg College before coming to Blake. Rob Hoops (Varsity) Jon McNair (JV) will assist Ludeman. The Bears are looking to improve upon their 10 and 14 2003-2004 season with a balanced attack of tenacious defense and strong shooters. The many new faces on the team add depth, enthusiasm, and will be a critical part of the overall success of the team.

Top returnees for the Bears are Kendall Boyd (sr. 5'6 - steady playmaker-outside scoring threat-great defender), Mary Angela Curran (so. 5'8 -athletic, versatile, good shooter), Melissa Davis (jr. 5'8 - very athletic, excellent defender, vocal leader, agile), Michael Johnson (jr. 5'9 -aggressive rebounder, great first step to the basket, great work ethic) and Laney Austin (so. 5'10 - much improved since last season, great takes to the basket, good shot blocker, runs the floor well.) Although the Bears are young, they are quite experienced and hope to surprise their opponents in the always strong Tri-Metro Conference.
