After losing by a point to Monticello and to Orono in dual meets this season, the Breck/Blake boys swim team leaped over both teams to win the Section 4A title.

Meanwhile, Armstrong was paced by senior Craig Nordquist at the Section 2AA meet Feb. 21 and 23 in Hutchinson.

Nordquist qualified for state by winning the 100-yard backstroke and by taking second in the 200-yard freestyle.

He also was part of the 400-yard freestyle relay that took second to make state. The relay also has juniors Brad Lester and Ryan Johnsen, plus ninth-grader Dan Curry, who qualified for state with a second place in the 100 butterfly.

Johnsen placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 200-IM, while diver Aric Grimley was ninth. In the 100 freestyle, Ben Heigl was seventh and Dusty Miller eighth.

Breck/Blake scored 345 points to win over Monticello (299), Spring Lake Park (290) and Orono (287) in the 12-team field.

All three relays qualified for state, producing many section team points.

John Piirainen was a double winner in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Max Markusen advanced to state in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

Thomas Winslow took second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 200 IM to make state in both. Nathan Yueh is going in the 200 IM as well after qualifying by the state time standard.

Cooper was paced by senior diver Paul Genereux, 13th. The 400 freestyle relay took seventh with Alex Hagerman, DeShane Nauheimer, William Stolarek-Houston and Elias Laitala.
