2005-2006 Boys' Swimming and Diving Summary

Overall Record: 5-2
Section 2A: Champions - The Breck/Blake Boys Swimming and Diving Team swept six first place finishes and captured the Section 2A Boys Swim and Dive Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on Friday, February 24th. Breck/Blake opened and closed the meet with team victories in the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay. Individual first place finishes were achieved by Breck sophomore Will Orlady in the 500 Free, Blake School senior and co-captain Will Jenkins in the 200 Freestyle, and Breck senior co-captain Colin McCarthy in the 100 Backstroke and 200 Individual Medley. Both Will Orlady (Breck) and Will Jenkins (Blake) broke the Breck/Blake team record in the 500 Free with their times of 4:52.09 and 4:52.18.
State Meet: Runners-up - Upsetting several higher seeded Class A teams, the Breck/Blake Boys Swim Team took 2nd Place in the Minnesota State High School Class A Swimming and Diving Tournament out of a field of 36 high schools. Breck/Blake's co-captains led the team with record-breaking performances. Breck senior Colin McCarthy achieved an All-American time winning his third state championship in the 100 Backstroke and set a new school record in taking 3rd place in the 200 Individual Medley. Blake Senior Will Jenkins captured 2nd place in the 500 Free with a new team record and 3rd place in the 200 Free. The Breck/Blake relay teams won 3rd, 4th and 8th places in important team relay events. Seven Breck/Blake swimmers- seniors Will Jenkins (Blake), Duncan Salyer (Blake), and Colin McCarthy (Breck), sophomores Will Orlady (Breck), John Piirainen (Blake), and Max Markusen (Blake), and freshmen Joe Ali (Blake)- achieved one or more "All-State Swimmer" designations by finishing in the Top 8 in an event.
