2008 Boys' Lacrosse Preview

Having earned an imposing 45-2 record under Joe Seivold's tenure (2005-2007), Coach Seivold steps away form the program this season leaving behind a storied tradition, including Blake's back-to-back MBSLA championships in 2005 and 2006. To continue this strong tradition, Blake looks to new Head Coach Rob Horn, who brings two big resume-builders from 2007 with him: coaching BSM to an undefeated season, and taking home the first MSHSL State Championship. Add to this Blake's four distinguished senior captains* who have amassed nine (9) All Conference awards and seven (7) All State honors since their freshman year, not to mention two division I recruits among them, and it's easy to see that Blake enters the 2008 season with some impressive numbers on their side.

As the state's only junior All American in 2007, Dartmouth-bound captain Kip Dooley (Class of '08) commands the offense to lead Blake's fluid attack. With solid play and contributions from the attack men on the roster (7), the Bears boast the talent to make it one of the state's deepest units.

The key to keeping the opponent's ball possession to a minimum this season will be Blake's midfield dominance flanked by senior captains Blake Dressen (Class of '08) and Navy recruit Jordan Seivold (Class of '08). With the leadership from the explosive Seivold, teamed with Dressen's unrelenting tenacity, Coach Horn also expects strong performances from a very deep and athletic midfield unit

At defense, senior captain Peter Johnson is the uncontested leader with his near-perfect play at both LSM and close-in D. Johnson will anchor an extremely deep defensive core that not only has the size and speed to keep opponents away from their goal, but also has the game experience to be confident in pressure situations. These Bear defenders believe that the best offense is a game-changing defense, and hope to provide a wall of support for goalie Matt Aizpuru (Class of '08).

Given the numbers and the program's solid reputation, Blake is primed to be one of the top programs in the state for 2008, but this season the Bears know in order to reach their ultimate goal, "it will have to be one game at a time," says Coach Horn.
