2007 Boys' Lacrosse Preview

After two straight undefeated seasons in the MBSLA, the Blake Bears Varsity lacrosse team will take the field in its inaugural MSHSL season in a bit of a rebuilding mode. Blake, coached for the third year by Joe Seivold, as well as by assistants Johnny Seivold and Jim Reilly, graduated significant players at every position, players who led the team to its success those past two years. Now, Blake will look to fill those holes with a much more untested group, particularly at defense, and therefore the prospects are hard to predict.

Offensively, the Bears will get goals from attackers including captain David Upjohn, Ben Gulla, Kip Dooley and Josh Birkholz, and middies Jordan Seivold, Willie Sanders-Lyle, Blake Dressen, and Erik Olson, amongst others. Brian Allen and Peter Johnson will lead a defensive corps that is otherwise a mystery, save in the nets, where Peter Ankeny and Matt Aizpuru will share duties.

There is no doubt that Blake, given its recent history of unparalleled success, will be a target on everyone's schedule; how tough and hungry the Bears are will determine how far they go in the state playoffs.
