Blake Earns Back-to-Back State Championships

|
The Blake Bears went into the 2006 boys' lacrosse season with one clearly delineated goal- repeat as state champions. On Saturday, June 10th the Bears did just that and did it with style! Blake not only notched their second straight state championship in as many years, but they went undefeated doing it, that is they went undefeated BOTH seasons. The Bear's 32 and 0 record leaves them the only team in nation to go undefeated in both the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
Coach Hank Marotske assesses the his team's offensive play, "Bryant Johnson (12, midfielder, committed to RPI) dominated the face off circle and our offense owned time of possession. We out shot and out groundballed the opposition." Marotske continues, "Our defense played tight, but well enough to win while Peter Ankeny had the game of his life between the pipes."
The Bears also took home some other hardware; Junior David Upjohn was named the tournament Most Valuable Offensive Player while sophomore middy Jordan Seivold earned Tournament MVP honors for the second straight season.
Eight Bears were named to the All State Team. Seniors Bryant Johnson and John Alden along with sophomores Jordan Seivold and Kip Dooley were named All State first team. Seniors Owen Holm, Michael Cathcart, David Jadin and Matt Dooley were named All State second team.
Capping off the awards presentation was presentation of All-American honors to Blake sophomore Kip Dooley and senior Bryant Johnson.
