2005 Boys' Lacrosse Preview

The Blake School lacrosse players have enjoyed an off-season of many successes. Last summer a large group of players traveled to Sonoma, CA for the Adrenaline Camp, a half dozen players were selected for the MN Select Traveling team including; Bryant Johnson (junior, midfield), Owen Holm junior, attack), Kip Dooley (freshman, attack/goalie), Michael Cathcart (junior, midfield), Johnny Alden (junior, midfield), David Upjohn (sophomore, midfield/ attack), David Jadin (junior, defenseman), and Matt Dooley (junior, defenseman) and a winter team organized by the captains won the Minnetonka winter league.

All of this past season’s hard work has paid off in the first couple weeks of organized practice and many of last years younger players are stepping up and playing solid. Senior Matt Manning and junior Michael Policinski have moved from midfield to defense solidifying the Bear’s defensive corps. Upjohn has moved from 2nd line midfield to starting attack giving the Blake School program its deepest and most potent offensive group in its history. Freshmen new comers Jordan Seivold (midfield) and Kip Dooley (attack) have come in and show great promise. Several players who developed significantly on last years JV team will contribute greatly this year including; Noah Pentelovitch (junior, midfield), David Moss (junior, defense), and Tommy Koch (junior, attack).

Also new to the program are offensive coordinator/assistant coach Joe Seivold, assistant varsity/MS coach Luke Sawtell, assistant varsity/ MS Coach Coleman Flaherty, and goalie coach Timothy Roche. Coach Seivold comes to Blake as the Director of the Middle School but also has an immense amount of lacrosse experience and knowledge. Joe has won at every level as both a player and a coach; including a national championship with North Carolina as a player and 10 state championships as coach with Durham Academy. Coach Sawtell comes to Blake School with playing experience at Moundsview High School and both Bethel College and the University of Minnesota. Coach Flaherty played at Mankato State University; he helped coach the Mankato youth program, and assisted with the Mankato High School program. Coach Roche played at Mankato State and was the head coach for his alma mater for a couple years after.

Blake School returns head coach/defensive coordinator Hank Marotske and head JV coach Matt Singleton. The varsity program is 34-17 over 4 years including; 1-9 in 2001, 10-3 in 2002, 11-3 in 2003, and 11-2 in 2004. Coach Singleton has done a great job at developing our younger players and preparing them for success at the varsity level.

The team’s goals are simple; win a third straight conference championship and compete for a state championship. With hard work, dedication and smart play this team’s potential is as high as they are ambitious.

Head coach Hank Marotske remarked, “As the head coach of one of the states best programs I want to thank the Blake community for all their support. Please come out and cheer for your athletes this spring!”

GO BEARS!!!
