The Blake School’s boys’ lacrosse squad opened their 2005 season with a victory over cross-town rival Minnetonka. Blake and Minnetonka met twice during winter league, both games leading to a Blake victory and once earlier for a preseason scrimmage. The teams are different in April however, as both teams had try-outs and several weeks of practice to prepare for this contest.

Minnetonka jumped out ahead scoring the first 3 goals. The Minnetonka faithful were very excited at that point! Coach Marotske took a time out to gather his troops together and settle them down midway through the first quarter. The Bears answered with three quick goals, tying the game at 3-3 at half time.

The Bears pulled away in the second half, never really looking back and finishing the game with a 13-4 victory. Freshmen Kip Dooley lead the team with 6 goals and 2 assists, followed by junior Bryant Johnson with 2 goals. Junior Michael Cathcart and freshman Jordan Seivold both had one goal and one assist. Juniors John Abbett, Noah Pentolovitch and David Upjohn all contributed a goal apiece. Junior captain Owen Holm did an excellent job controlling and distributing the ball with 3 assists. Even junior defenseman Matt Dooley and senior captain defenseman Matt Manning contributed with one assist a piece out of transitional situations.

Both Holm and Matt Dooley lead the team with 11 groundballs. Johnson lead the team in face off's, helping the Bears maintain possession during several key moments in the first half.

The Bears look forward to their next game, April 23rd at Shattuck St. Mary's School in Faribault, MN. Game time is 2:30 pm

Go Bears!
