Louwerse and Steinhauser Selected to Play in Minnesota Great 8

The Blake School senior hockey players Mike Louwerse and Steve Steinhauser have been invited to participate and represent Region 5 A/AA in the 26th Annual Ted Brill Minnesota Great 8 High School Hockey Festival. High school A & AA sections will pair up to form eight sectional teams to play in a three day tournament March 30 - April 1, 2007 at Wakota Arena located in South Saint Paul, MN. USA Hockey designates the Great 8 as a national development program; the Minnesota State High School League allowing participants to maintain their eligibility for spring high school sports sanctions the event.
The Festival's purpose is to identify those Minnesota athletes having potential for future participation in USA Hockey regional, national, and/or international training and competition and to expose these athletes to collegiate and other opportunities at advanced levels of competition.
Mike Louwerse, an All Tri Metro Conference and Honorable Mention All State forward netted 35 points (15G, 20A) for The Blake School during an injury shortened 2006-2007. In 31 games during the 2005-2006 season Mike scored 56 points on 27 goals 29 assists averaging 1.8 points per game. He led the high-powered Bears in all of these rankings. Louwerse has signed a National Letter of Intent to play NCAA Division I hockey at Minnesota State University, Mankato after graduation.
Steve Steinhauser, an All Tri Metro Conference performer tallied 29 points (16G, 13A) in 28 games in 2006-2007. Steinhauser was also the recipient of the Bear's Rod Anderson Award. This award recognizes the hardest working player in both practice and in games. The recipient of this award has demonstrated his efforts consistently through his actions and is chosen by a vote of the team and coaches.
