2006 Boys' Golf Preview

Bruce "Arch" Archibald has been at this long enough to know what he's up against. The Bears varsity boys' golf coach and math teacher is in his 35th year as a Blake School teacher and coach, and 33rd in the golf program-22 as head coach. Last year’s team was second in the Tri-Metro Conference and second in the Sub-Section 4A tournament and even though there will be a tough schedule in the Tri-Metro Conference and plenty of competition in Section 4A, the team is poised to make a run at the blue ribbon medals this year.
The Bears are led by senior tri-captains Dan Rowe, B.J. Wangensteen and junior Will Teddy.
Arch analysis the play of his three captains as follows, “Rowe is a complete player with good control who just loves the game. Wangensteen is a strong, improving player and Teddy, who was all-conference last year, is just a pleasure to watch play.
Other key contributors will be seniors Jamie Leathers and Ryan Rosoff and all-conference sophomore Jack Barnes.
The Bears look to be a very steady, solid group of veteran golfers. Coach Archibald says, “We really can compete with anybody. We have no superstars, but have consistent play across the board.”
"This years team should put up a very solid season. Many of the core players are back this year, and all of us have played together for at least one year, so we all know what the other is capable of. We got close last year and I think that if we all play to our full abilities then we will have a great year," predicts junior captain Will Teddy.
Senior captain B.J. Wangensteen reflects, “It looks to be a good year. We have a bunch of young players that are posting strong scores, and with the returning varsity players, our team should be successful far past the regular season.”
John Hamre, the varsity boys’ Hockey coach, assists Archibald as head of the boys JV golf team. The JV team enjoys Woodhill Country Club as their home course.
